Following the policy announcement on industrial workers’ wage subsidy programme by the Right Honourable the Prime Minister on the 13th of April 2020 and on the 5th May 2020, the Government of Lesotho assigned the Lesotho National Development Corporation (LNDC) the responsibility to administer the disbursement of the subsidies to the beneficiaries.

The industrial worker’s wage subsidy programme has been structured to benefit the most vulnerable groups of industrial workers covered by minimum wage regulations. The LNDC has been mandated to explore all legal and possible means to disburse payments of M800.00 each to around 50,000 beneficiaries cost effectively and securely.

By close of business today Monday 11th May 2020, the corporation will have processed payments for close to 20,000 workers, with the remainder finalized in the next two (2) days. 

The Government of Lesotho wishes to extend its appreciation for the support granted by all relevant social partners, ministry of labour & employment, and the ministry of trade & industry, that have contributed in this noble initiative to protect our fellow Industrial Workers during these challenging times. The manufacturing sector remains the life blood of the Lesotho economy and the government of Lesotho pledges its unwavering commitment to lessen to the extent possible, the economic impact of Covid – 19 pandemics to this sector.
