As preparations advance for participation of Lesotho at Source Africa 2015, LNDC in partnership with the Southern African Trade Hub, will conduct a two-day workshop on the 27^th and 28^th April, 2015 for Textile and Garment manufacturing companies of Lesotho, to be certified under the Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP).

Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) is an independent, objective, non-profit team of global social compliance experts dedicated to promoting safe, lawful, humane and ethical manufacturing around the world through certification and education. The organization is headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, USA with offices in Hong Kong and Bangladesh as well as representatives in India and Southeast Asia.

The LNDC CEO, Mr. Kelebone Leisanyane says the subject of social compliance is of extreme significance to the buyers. “It was re-emphasised at the Magic Show held in Las Vegas in February 2015 that all factories should be compliant with international standards in terms of child labour and forced labour, health and safety, harassment and abuse, discrimination, hours of work, compensation and benefits, and freedom of association; hence our partnership with  the USAID- Southern African Trade Hub to increase international competitiveness of the regional textile and garment industry by facilitation of this awareness seminar in order to encourage all our manufacturing companies to be WRAP certified,” added Mr. Leisanyane.

The CEO also says the Corporation will continue to employ numerous efforts to ensure that the Textile and Garment industry of Lesotho continuously develops its competitiveness and becomes a sustainable driver of the economy. The certification process is also meant to prepare companies that will participate at the upcoming Source Africa 2015 to meet the requirements of international buyers.

The seminar will be held at the LNDC Headquarters in the main boardroom at 0830Hrs. On Monday afternoon, the seminar will be followed by a visit of three textile factories.
